80% of the firearms deaths in the developed world happen in the US, according to a new study
Americans are 10 times more likely to be killed by a gun – compared to people living in other developed nations.
When it comes to homicides, Americans, aged 15-24, are 49 times more likely to be killed by a gun compared to people living in other developed nations around the world.
The statistics have been published in The American Journal of Medicine.
“Our firearms are killing us rather than protecting us,” says Professor Erin Grinshteyn, of the University of Nevada-Reno.
